RE: Dirk Meyer, the man to watch at AMD
Anyone remember the AMD lawsuit against Intel---it's not over. Most normal computer users understand SPEED and are (unfortunately) not so much concerned with power savings. Industry is the opposite in their approach. A company with 1000 computers thinks power savings as #1. Intel is a giant, but AMD's lawsuit has opened many eyes---other than American eyes. A repercussion is imminent and Intel can't fight the world. This is where Ruiz has shined. He has diplomatic skills far superior to anyone else at AMD---or Intel, in my opinion. He is staying on at AMD through 2008 for a reason, and I don't believe the reason has anything to do with America. The influx of money AMD just received came from where? Intel's current processor technology came from--Israel's engineers? There is a much, much bigger picture here than Wall Street can see. AMD is moving away from the home "desktop" scene and is focusing on industry--with advanced power savings being top dog in their thinking. This is why Meyer is so important. It would be interesting to see a leadership reversal rarely seen before. Meyer as CEO---and Ruiz as COO. Either way, there better not be any more serious bumps in the road, but I would expect a very spectacular announcement from AMD within the next 3-4 months that will start Wall Street buzzing.
