Well, Yeah !
I have 2 analog TV's here. Blue collar budget the the center of the U.S.A. here.. This isn't Hollywood.
I know a LOT of single mothers who would LOVE to have an extra $50.00 for food, diapers, or clothes for their child. Or maybe even something nice for themselves.
Do you think that they are thrilled about having to spend $50.00 on a stupid converter box to watch the same TV they are watching now ? Will they be able to run out and buy a new $1100 ' digital ' TV that has a lifespan of about 1/10th of the life of the TV they have now ?
And let's consider all of the folks that DO have the money to swap all 3 of their household TV's for new digital ones. The old ones are now junk.
So let's picture billions of analog TV's, now junk, hitting our local landfill within about a one year span. All that fine powder in those billions of CRT tubes, and all the electronics seeking down into your local water supply's aqua filter....
This whole switch to digital thing sure could've been done better, I think.
