I understand where you are coming from.
However let's say you are Apple or some other consumer electronics giant. How else
would you solve this problem of profitability and shareholder demands?

You see, it's no secret when you buy into these tie-ins that you are buying into them.
People seem to not care and until that changes I doubt there is another consumer
friendly solution.
