1970's Tech reborn
"Matrix's chips differ from conventional memory chips in that their content, once recorded, can't be erased. Small jolts of electricity purposely blow a fuse embedded into the transistors."

This sounds exactly like the Electrical Programable Read Only Memory chips (EPROM) from the mid 1970's. Only in 3D and using much smaller transistors. But the co. was started in the 1980's so it looks like they are stuck there.
