In a nut shell - The competition is better than Intel !
In virtually every PC market segment Intel is losing share, revenue and reputation. AMD has Hammered Intel big time in both PC and server processors. Now they are also hurting Intel with 32/64 bit notebooks CPUs. The Asian Mobo makers have been Hammering Intel for the past several years with superior Mobo quality and features. VIA, SiS, Nvidia and others have taken a large chunk of chipset Biz from Intel.

Recently Intel has launched a host of defective products including over-heating Prescott CPUs and 915 chipsets, most of which have had to be recalled. This is *another* Million Mobo Recall similar to the 815 chipset deal... Intel is just cranking out crap to save face as AMD Hammers them into submission. As a result of Intel's defective and inferior products and their "Buy-a-sale" approach to(try and) fool Wall Street, the game is almost over. You can only BUY sales for so long before the numbers don't jive with reality. Intel has massive inventory, while AMD Opteron sales are up 67%. That pretty much tells the real story. Intel literally has absolutely NOTHING worthy of purchase in their PC product line and would actually be out-of-Biz if it were not for Buying Sales from their installed base to mislead investors, IMNHO.

Wall Street can no longer continue with blinders on while Intel burns. The next two years will be the best years ever for consumers in the PC industry as Intel loses it's monopolistic strangle hold on mfgs. and a free market returns where superior products are available from everyone except Intel.
