It really helps to have Linux running on Intel for the low end.
Really, IBM, Sun, and HP, can not complain about Linux eating into the low end. What Linux is doing is keeping the low end on a "Unix like" OS, that can be moved up the Unix chain. And, the competition on low end servers that IBM, Sun, and HP need to worry about is Dell, NOT Microsoft. Microsfts solution is not stable, and is a lot more expensive than Linux. You could probably count on one hand the companies that use Windows to do more than run departmental servers / exchange.

Well, that said, the Unix venders need to accelerate the move to Linux and eliminate the R&D on their custom Unix versions. IBM is probably best positioned to do that.
