Reflection of economic uncertainties
Software is the canary of business. When it?s sick, that?s a good indication that the economy is unhealthy.

Once all these phony wars have stopped distracting us, will we see that the US economy is in long term decline?

How bad an impact on quality has offshore work really had on products and their maintenance? And how big an impact on VALUE, since prices haven?t dropped?

Has the US permanently lost much of its skilled workforce, both in IT and other fields?

Is the US tax base eroding, so that it will be unable to support the infrastructure corporations need?

Which of the software vendors will still be around in 1 (or 5 or 10) years? Any?

Which technologies will retain value long enough to repay their initial costs?

How does one hire staff to support new technologies when there?s no budget for training?

Most companies have answered these questions with a loud DUNNO. And until anyone has the answers, we?re all going to sit here with our mouths open, afraid to move or spend.
