Faulty Reasoning

--And those applications don't END at someone's real phone either. IF VoIP was strickly internet phone to internet phone, I would totally agree. But most of them don't. They tie into the real phone system. Ergo INTERSTATE CALLING.--
I use Vonage, many of my friends do too. By your reasoning, when I talk to them, it's not an interstate call or indeed a phone call at all. If I call my mother though it would be since she uses POTS. The fallacy in your argument is that the only interaction between Vonage and POTS occurs at the local office. Ergo LOCAL CALLING at best.

I can sympathize with your mom's $32 phone call fiasco. Several years ago my grandmother ran into the same thing. However as you said, that was perfectly legal WITH the regulatations already in existence.

How long do you think that would last? The world moves at internet speeds now. If Vonage suddenly hiked my rates, I would immediately switch to Skype, 8x8, or another VOIP provider. So would almost every other user. Vonage would be out of business by the end of the year. If all the VOIP providers raised rates together, there might be a problem. But then again, it would be clear evidence of collusion and prosecution would be possible under the RICO act. My big issue with regulation of VOIP is that costs will go up without any commensurate benefit to users.
