For once we agree. Let teh market do what it does best.
So what if there are dozens of differing VoIP applications? The great ones will survive and create a defacto standard and the others will die on the vine.

What I find interesting is that these companies are trying to position themselves as a "middle man" for VoIP services when they aren't needed. You and I can talk just fine with half a dozen applications and it is totally FREE.

Yes there is the problem of getting to someone without internet access but that is quickly disappearing as more and more households get on line.

Bottom line, the Telco's see the end of thier controlling communications coming to and end and they do NOT like it at all. They simply won't be able to milk the twisted pair to the home after decades of monthly connect fees and they have no idea how to change it.
