I hear strains of "Amazing Grace!"
>> Backward compatibility counts in hardware, too.

Yes, it does!! I was recently GIVEN a MAC 'Powerbook G4' which the service agency had told the owner was 'not economically repairable.' I fired it up, and it appeared to be starting, but the display wasn't functioning. Now I've had this happen on a PC laptop, and I simply plugged in a monitor to the port on the back & used it successsfully until I could get a screen module orderd (under warranty). The biggest drawback I see to MAc is the TOTAL lack of expandability or ports! This one I was given has NONE! It will accept a PCMCIA card, but is there such a card for video output??

I find this 'Powerbook G4' a totally useless paperweight if the slightest thing goes wrong with it. Witness the owner's giving it to me and spending $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ for another one (poor sod!). I now own the only MAC I will ever own, but it is useless except as a (very large) paperweight.
