Companies make money by selling products.

Apple doesn't have a product to sell in this space. They've stopped making the current one, haven't introduced the successor.
This means they will sell fewer machines than they might have, hence have lower profits.
This is why Apple's stock declined after they made this announcement.

Okay?

Notice I haven't said a word against any Apple product. This is just business.
