All of your points are valid, but I don't agree with the conclusion. Which is, of course, just a matter of perspective.
I haven't used OS X and have no plans to, currently, because I'm not prepared to invest in another platform. I have used OS 9 quite a bit, although after some years of using Windows. Windows is hardly a seamless experience, but neither was OS 9 in my experience, even though it was marketed at the time as such. The lack of right mouse button support was a major failing for me (as I understand it, even the new Macs come with a single button model), as I find that it increases my productivity significantly. That alone kept me from using my Mac that often.
As had been said before, it's all a question of the interface to which you've become accustomed. I find fault with MS for the poor security and the constantly released bug fixes (often marketed as new software versions). But I run Windows 2K and for my use (MP3 encoding, image/video editing and DVD authoring, to name the major ones) it's fast and very stable. I'm very comfortable with the interface at this point and learning a new one might be worthwhile, but what I have works for me, so I don't see the point. Especially for the cost involved.
And sometimes choosing the cheapest path is something to be proud of, if you're getting something that suits your needs and it means you're being fiscally responsible. Most people just don't need that much and Apple markets some of their machines to them. - Posted by: mds_z Posted on: 11/13/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
