hmm.... Interesting! The Cluster of PS3's on F@H to Break 1 PFLOP First! happy
FOLDING@HOME is getting over 80% of it's compute cycles from a bunch of Gamers!

With a fraction of the total number of Computers Folding, PS3 is at near 1 PFLOP and is expected to be the most powerful single Distributed Computing Network in the World, when Sony takes the system "LIVE" with IBM GameFrame Hybrids, when they come on line to manage it!

But it's the Cell BE processor (the Dream and brain child of Ken Kutaragi decades ahead of it's time to put the HPC's on the map. At the beginning of this decade, HPC Clusters were basically a figment of everyone's imagination. Now with Linux ruling this Super Computing Class, almost all HPC clusters don't know what M$ Windows even looks like. Where's the M$ Giant in this race? Well they just came out with an HPC Cluster OS in June of last year. But so far are a few years late and many dollars short of Linux's fast moving take over (near 90% control of this market segment)!!!

The almighty Tux the Penquin sits at the top of this heap, even in the kernel powering the now ever growing Beast of Burden in the Sony PS3!

The Cell BE is no longer just a dream in Kutaragi's head. It supplies the majority of the compute cycles in all of these IBM Hybrid Super Computers including the black box (that maybe) sitting in your Living Room! wink
