Another false prediction
"For people that really want to carry around 5,000 songs, I don't know if cell phones will ever have enough memory, Nokia spokesman Steven Kanuff said.

20 years ago, PCs had less than 1 MB.
10 years ago, every MSWindows PC had 16MB (because MSWindows3.1 could not handle more.)
5 years ago, cheap cell phones could barely store 100 contacts.

Today, 4GB USB keychain drives are available. They are smaller than a cell phone, and most of the size is protection against damage and loss. The actual drive would easily fit into most cell phones, which are also mostly empty space for the same reasons.

MP3s are the desired format for portable music. They average at 5MB for 3 minute songs. 5000 songs at 5MB each = 25,000 MB = 25GB. We should expect combination CellPhone/MusicPlayers with 32GB of drivespace to be available before the end of the decade. Assuming drivespace doubles each year: 8, 16, 32 is only 3 years so this leaves a 3 years buffer in my prediction.

It is good that Nokia spokesman Steven Kanuff is not as famous as Bill Gates, or this line would haunt him for a very long time.
