news with a twist
Hmmm.. so it's all Clinton's fault. At a glance I realized the web pages you refer to are far wrong of Rush Limbaugh. Isn't this a little bit of a 'let's blame Clinton so people won't see Bush for all his faults' so he can be re-elected.
You seriously think American business was not going to cater to the emerging 1 billion people market. And, big business is not what I consider part of the liberal establishment. Your neo-conservative compatriots from GM to banks to electronics are cashing in on what's going on in China today. Are the exporting? No, they built the plants and transferred the technology there so they can be close to market, and export goods back here. Most important - Americans would not give the Europeans monopoly over Asia which would have happened if US government had stuck to its China trade policies.
Also, I read a lot about American secrets, American technology, American universities, American this and that. Many of the 'brains' working on 'American technology' are people educated in universities outside of America. Asians and Europeans are often better educated than Americans. Why do they come to US - because they have limited number of seats at their own universities? True - at doctorate level US often has better research facilities, and that is when foreign brain-power is recruited to do the job for commercial sponsors.
Finally, I think patents have something to do with all of this. As long as Americans export products to other countries they can patent their inventions in foreign markets to protect their intellectual property. If not - I don't think it would take long for the Chinese to reverse engineer the products themselves (which they did under embargo!). As if Americans (government and industry) are not spying on development abroad.
Time to stop gazing at you own navel - besides it's a useless piece of anatomy anyways.
