Some corrections...
'One glaring example is the billions we poured into Iraq during the 1980s because it was our "ally" against Iran. When Saddam lost his usefulness, Iraq became an enemy. All of this happened under Reagan and Bush Sr.'

Two incorrect statements here, I will correct:

1) We never "poured billions" into Iraq. We supplied Iraq with intelligence on Iranian troop movements and strengths (in an effort to stop the Iranian army from destroying the Iraqi) but we never supplied, armed or otherwise helped Iraq at the level you are suggesting. After the Kurds were gassed, we even stopped the intelligence information. Iraq WAS approached by the U.S. to come under our "sphere of influence" but Saddam chose to stay with the Soviets - who pumped billions into their system.

2) After Saddam used WMD on the Kurds, the U.S. pulled out completely (point 1 above) during the Reagan administration. Bush 41 was not involved with "friendly" Saddam except as Veep. Even then, Iraq was not considered an ally or friendly nation - the idea was to simply stop the influence of the Iranian theocracy from spreading in the Mid East. Iraq (Saddam) actually became an enemy to the U.S. after the Gulf War. The Justice Department has indited Iraq as a government that helped the terrorist bomb the WTC back in 1993.
