I certainly think that it would be interesting to see the new compression tools and compare them to ATRAC. What I did find 2 years ago was that compressing at alower rate (above 128Kb) that your files get larger. You may gain on quality but you lost on size and hence limit your storage capacity.

At the time I found that ATRAC with an LP2 (times to compression) provided the best sound quality/loss ratio to file size. Hence the capacity of one MiniDisc storing around 160min of music with LP2 compression.

It would interesting to see how the tools compare now.
