OS9/8/etc had problems but...
>>> So anything prior to OSX was a POS?? >>>

they were easily remedied if you took a couple of precautions.

Memory management pre-OSX was a bit flaky. Each app set aside a memory "partition" that was usually set too low by the app manufacturer. Bump up the memory allocation (per app) and it erased most memory-related problems/crashes.

Re-gaining that memory when quitting a program was the second part of the problem. Some apps were better than others at giving back it's memory to the system. Two ways to alleviate the problem... 1) quit apps in reverse order of opening (ie, open app A, then B then C... close in reverse order ... close C, B, A)... you usually got your memory back; 2) "force-clear" memory using a free app such as "Mac OS Purge" (usually freed up captured memory).

Other than that, I found pre-OSX Mac OSes more stable and usable than comparable Windows versions of the time (DLL Hell in particular was worth the price of Mac admission).

OSX has been a dream to use and rock-solid after my initial trepidation of it's complex and "completely new to me" Unix underpinnings.

I can't understand people drooling over many hyped features in a yet-to-be-released Longhorn when most are available today in a stable and very usable OSX.
