HP is the Black Widow Spider of Buggy Computers
Although the memory test on my hp pavilion zt1195 was negative, it has proven positive for myriad other serious problems, predominantly the system 32 error which requires a full system recovery from the CD's. This means loss of all stored data and software ugrades including owner installed software.

I have never been so displeased with any of my electronics purchases as I have been with this laptop. It was repaired several times, and the hard drive has been replaced twice since I bought it in July 2002. Each repair cost me a tremendous loss of valuable data. It's own cd-reader/writer has not been reliable in either recording data or reading the data which it has recorded.

I have spent untold hours on the phone with HP Tech Support & Best Buy Tech Support in trying to resolve the quirks that make this computer a real lemon. I have been advised by HP NOT to install any new programs; rather use only those installed at the time I purchased the machine!? Does anyone buy a computer not to install other software? One HP tech even told me to buy a new machine while mine was still under their warranty because he could not troubleshoot the problem and HP would not replace the computer. The absurdities haven't stopped there and the book-length explanation of it all is more exasperating than I care to submit to or even bestow on my worst enemy (lest it be Osama Bin Ladin).

I am not impressed that HP is running this self-serving campaign, heralding their efforts to repair this memory board problem when they should have recalled 90% of all the home pc's they have ever sold, including the pavilion zt1195!

This computer is ideal for the geek who just wants to troubleshoot programs and hardware all day long with no intention of using it for any productive reason beyond computer repair.

For those who expect performance from their computer, in the same way they are advertised and marketed, to enhance and simplify your life, I would recommend another manufacturer. The zt1195 should be called the "Black Widow" because it may kill you before it finally dies.
