yes, there were some missteps, and there has been a lot of after-the-fact denials ('no, we never said *that*'). my reading has not lead me to the same conclusion as you. but those bit everyone, didnt they? kerry bought it, as did bush. congress gets the same reports the president does, particularly the security committees, on which there are lots of democrats. and then we have to go outside our country, where other intelligence agencies told *their* governments the same thing. and, of course, the fact that the cia director was a democrat doesnt have any impact on the way this can now be spun into a political thing, right?

as to the businesses involved, again, time will tell (possibly). kerrys wife is heir to the heinz corporation; they are a manufacturing company in the food business (which, incidentally, off-shores a *whole* lot of jobs; wonder what their environmental track record is in those countries? if those countries even care...). that will connect him to other similar companies. media companies may play a part, but they dont keep all their money in themselves, they invest in other things. media has to be produced and distributed, so that covers a lot of ground besides just the ip portion of it. and theres a whole host of other contributors that stand to gain a lot if their 'man' gets elected. it becomes about money and helping those who helped you, not about some hard-felt set of beliefs.

as to the sierra club, well, they are hardly unbiased, and it is awfully hard for a senator to have the same impact as a president, so comparing their records isnt very useful at this point. personally, i find most of the 'environmental' issues groups such as this raise to be mostly shams; the idea that the world is going to fall apart, stop spinning, heat up 20 degrees, enter a new ice age, or whatever based on some presidents policy change is ludicrous to me and bespeaks of an amazing arrogance in the belief that human beings can have that much effect. the radical and extreme claims often made are rather easily disproven scientifically. sure, i am *all* for keeping the air clean and the water pure and protecting special places and such, but it will not become my religion du jour.

if kerry indirectly affects the environment by helping out one of his corporate cronies, it wont impact his 'record', the sierra clubs view of him, or, quite frankly, the overall environment much. its a red herring issue.
