...crap!

From the article:"We didn't enforce these patents sooner, because we didn't want to slow down development in the market. But now that the technologies are firmly established, we feel we must protect our intellectual property."

Right. They wanted to wait until it was widely used by the big players so they had bigger better targets to extort.

This is just one in a long list of examples of just how screwed up the patent system is. Companies who wait to take action on their patents should be considred to have not shown due diligence and their suits dismissed.
