Don't know if it's that bad
Simple solution, buy a different universal remote. The digital box universal remote has about 50 buttons on it and it is very confusing and very large. You can buy a simple universal remote that will change channels on you TV and Digital receiver with a minimum of buttons. Also they are cheap cheap cheap to buy at any discount store.

Also aren't there set top boxes for receiving digital broadcasts over the air to connect to older TVs with out that type of tuner? I think I saw one for $50, that sure beats spending $500 for a new TV.
