BZZZT! Wrong Answer!
Let's talk standards. The reason everybody can make a profit building these PC toys is that there are standards everybody can agree on and build to. So here's Intel trying to jerk the rug out from under everybody by pushing non-standard "improvements" to the technology base. IBM tried that once. The machines were called PS/2s, and they sucked. Badly.

So, they're behind AMD on the technology curve, and they're running scared (as well they should). Setting up new technologies with an eye toward shutting out competition will lead Intel down a dead-end road, and they'll be lucky if they can escape it while remaining profitable. Those whose portfolios do not feature Intel stock know that AMD processors are superior (odd, I've never had to replace an AMD processor because of computational issues, or had to run drivers to correct its behavior), and are specifying them. There are now 64-bit Linux kernels available, and even Intel's partner in the Axis of Evil, Microsoft, is preparing a 64-bit Windows. Intel's reign of terror is over, and I will greatly enjoy watching their death throes as they slide toward the abyss.
