Apple X based on Power G5 versus Itanium2's
Wait a second, when you say no. 1 spot you mean most cost effective? I might agree. Especially if costs include electricity to run the processors and electricity to cool the racks.

Both the G5's and Opterons will run with less power consumption lower heat dissipitation therefore requiring less electricity to run and cool. Also, the Opterons and G5's will cost considerably less than the Itanium2's.

Then there is costs of racks, real estate and connectivity. If your blades cannot scale well for multiple processors, it will require more connectivity per processor but HyperTransport does eliminate alot of that.

Sheer server density is an issue which is related to real estate itself and heat dissipitation is related to server density.

I can't figure the equation but the Itania are out of the question.

---Just talking.
