- And what's wrong with being a Republican?
-
Let's dissect your little diatribe here:
Such a convenient rewriting of history makes you a perfect candidate for a Republican presidency.
The fact is Apple came before Windows. It's also a fact that Windows was based on 10-year old Apple technology. Not many people know, much less acknowledge that little tidbit.
Actually... BOTH Windows and Mac OS are derived from prior art - Xerox PARC developed the first GUI for the Xerox STAR system - and both Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were there to take notes.
Now here's an odd little tidbit for you to digest. Xerox PARC labs generally put MANY of their discoveries and advances directly into the Public Domain. That's right. The GUI was put into the PUBLIC DOMAIN. Such a concept in these patent trolling, law suit happy times is inconcievable. But I digress...
Why do you think Microsoft helped out Apple a few years ago? Altruism?? You would be stupid to think that. As anyone with any understanding would tell you, you need competition to survive in a capitalistic society. Which is why the courts "allowed" Windows. It's competition. Without which there would've been a monopoly in Apple's hands. Remember, Apple came first.
Yeah.. yeah.. The Mac came on the scene a few years ahead of Windows 1.0. Xerox beat 'em both.
You ARE, however, right in that Microsoft's "donation" to the Apple cause wasn't altruistic. There were two factors involved.
1.) The ID-10-T's running Apple at the time were driving the company into the ground. They had NO vision.
2.) Microsoft NEEDED some sort of competiton - if for no other reason than to stave off the DOJ and the anti-trust squads.
As far as Quicktime is concerned, it's a superior medium to Windows Media. Anyone, like myself, who works in the FX film industry would tell you that they'd rather work with Quicktime files then Windows Media any day.
Superior...? To what? Frankly, I find QT to be annoying. Not to mention prone to blowing huge volumes of chunks more often than not on EVERY Windows system I've ever had. Honestly, I'd rather work with universally standard media - VOBS, MPEG, even Divx files are preferable. Maybe QT works better on a Mac. It's entirely possible that Apple's programmers are clueless as to how to produce Windows flavors of their software. Given the recent release of Safari for Windows, I'd say that assessment is likely confirmed.
I'm moving back to Mac myself.
Bon Voyage! Enjoy...
I'm kind of glad it doesn't have a huge market share. If it did, people would be writing viruses for it, left and right. Sadly, 14-yr old hackers have nothing better to do with their social ineptitude then disturb the lives of others with viruses. One day they might actually make hacking a crime instead of rewarding them with government contracts.
The Mac also suffers from a lack of choice as the software selection is rather limited unless you're a fairly hard core programmer and know how to tweak and recompile Linux stuff into OSX. As long as your needs are simple, OSX will be more than good enough for you.
Of course, you could always install Parallels or BootCamp. - Posted by: Wolfie2K3 Posted on: 09/15/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
