I don't get this author's analogy: Imagine investing in a restaurant and then having to pay for your meal every time you eat there.

I buy an iPod and then I buy music on iTunes. I buy a vcr and then either rent or buy dvds.

There is major convenience in not having to run to the store or waiting for the mail or returning the item. Most importantly, I am all about instant gratification.
