RE: Set-top box makers still waiting for customers
Replaytv basically invented the market not Tivo. Tivo is a dumbed down version of replaytv. Seriously dumbed down.

Build a box that sells for 2 or 300 dollars and charge a quarter (1/2 hour tv episode) - to fifty cents (1 hour episode) - seventy-five to one dollar for a full length movie, or yearly discounted series subscriptions, tie that to the ability to pay for and download popular series from around the world in real time like (Dr. Who in the states and Battlestar Gallactica, and Atlantis in the UK and Australia) and watch the masses come running.

It's not rocket science really. What's killing the industry is plain and simple greed. They're charging way too much for the content considering the delivery mechanism.
