I'm not sure how Spin_Master would answer it, but I'd answer it in plain English
As far as the XBox hacks, they're definitely cool, if only from the standpoint of technical achievement. When the XBox originally came out there seemed to be some sense in attempting a hack to load Linux. Afterall, it was essentially a PC with a P3, GeForce 3, 10GB hard drive, ethernet, modified USB and TV out. Placing Linux on top and clustering a few together seemed like a fairly smooth way of getting a lot of horsepower for a little cash. Since then, PC component prices have dropped so drastically that there's no financial advantage left to it anymore. For the $180 it costs to buy an XBox nowadays you can purchase the components needed to build a far better Linux box without going through the trouble of hacking the XBox. Just pick up the latest Fry's Electronics ad. At this point the only thing interesting about hacking an XBox is just the fact that it's been done.
>don't u think the coolest thing going on with xbox r da hacks?
Like another poster already mentioned, the coolest thing going on with the XBox right now is XBox LIVE. I'm definitely never going to be mistaken for a big fan of Microsoft, but I'm willing to give credit where credit is due. There are some concerns with the entire XBox LIVE process, but overall it's an awesome setup. I've played games online on Windows boxes, Macs, Dreamcasts, PS2s and XBoxes. Bottom line is the XBox has managed it better than any other platform. I don't want to go too far off-topic, so I'll stop there. - Posted by: JakAttak Posted on: 11/10/03 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
