So what?
It's all well and good if providers actually install and use the new chips, as well as offering a decent speed for a reasonable price.
SBC is the local DSL monopoly in my area. After reading the article, I checked DSL availability in my area and found that I could get a whopping 384 kbps d/l and 128 kbps u/l rate. Wowsers Batman!! SBC is offering 1/20 the speed of the "typical" ADSL speeds from the article. There is no reason to think that SBC would offer anything better, even if the chips become available in 2006 as predicted. I'll stick with my 3 Mbps cable that costs less than SBC's offering.
