Too bad that companies like this end up making bass-ackwards decisions
My first Windows computer was a Gateway P200 MMX machine. It had a 2.1 gig hard drive and 32 megs of memory. I thought I was in hog heaven. It had a couple of problems that I could not fix and calling their tech support was a wonderful experience. They were helpful, gave me their number to call back if I had more problems with the same thing, and even followed up with a manager calling to ensure that my experiences were good.

Contract that with the last Gateway I bought (Performance 500) a couple of years later. Horrible tech support, customer service was like, "yeah, whatever" and promptly lost me as a customer.

I still have the one Gateway Performance machine (used for testing and installing Linux distros) but I will never buy another machine from Gateway.

A friend, who bought an e-Machine, asked me to install some memory for him. Opening that machine still makes me wake up screaming. Could they install ANY cheaper component than they already have? I wonder that he can even boot the machine and write emails.

Bottom line, Gateway used to be a star in the on-line, configure your own market. They quickly slid down the hill and are now resting on the precipice, just waiting to fall into the abyss from which not even talking cows can save them.
