percepted speed...
no longer matters... a 1Ghz x86 chip is more than enough to load a word processor and type w/o a percieved lag.
this speed only matters in higher end programs that 90% of the uers never touch. for me, it's digital photo processing, for soem it's video editing, other's CAD, or games. Many of these things have benchamrks, that exist on mutiple platforms.
