Been around since mid-1980's
This is very old hat. These emissions have been "around" since the birth of the laser printer.

Many of us long ago knew better than to inhale, deeply or otherwise, around almost any laser printer, be it the venerable Series II or almost any of the newer models.

In fact, many old and new laser printers have a small activated charcoal filter right by the circuit board and/or right by the fuser assembly.

Hasn't anyone wondered what those were and why?

Wake up, people, and smell the toner! er, well, maybe not.
