Still a moot argument...
without a CPU to drive your GUI then it's useless: Software, bus, hardware, or whatever. The point being that all logic operations are done through the CPU, and the faster the clock on a CPU the faster the logic gates in the chip open/close to initiate a instruction. Another reason for it is the ability to add more complex instruction to the CPU. You can have your fast GUI, bus, or hardware, but without a CPU to drive it then it's all useless junk. e.g, I have ferrari which will go extremely fast, but without an operator it is useless and won't go anywhere.
