what about DSP based add in boards or video HW?
According to the video software vendor and everyone on the software forums using my particular software, harddisk speed, RAM speed and quantity of RAM, Video RAM, and you name it has NO appreciable effect on render speed.

That's the key ... your SW is using the CPU therefore its scaling as a function of CPU speed. Run it on a different CPU with a faster floating point unit (or whater function it needs) and you will get even faster performance at a slower clockspeed. Or, buy a HW chipset designed to do the transform or whatever you are doing in HW and you'll get even better performance than even possible on a CPU.

That's why video processing is done on dedicated HW or high end DSP chips in production and not on general purpose CPUs except for things like render farms where hugh numbers of CPUs are a good alternative. Look for DSP based SW to do the same ting if you need real speed ... don't wait for the CPU if its a bottleneck!
