you just compared apples to oranges using diameter
I'll take my 1.74 GHz AMD Athlon 2100 over anything CPU under 1 GHz (including Mac CPUs) because it will execute faster.

The MAC uses a RISC PowerPC chip which simply gets more done in the same amount of time as a CISC. Granted AMD has a better design than the INTEL and is more RISC like so its closer to a fair comparison but ...

... comparing clock speed is like saying you'll get to work faster if you drive a Ferrai becasue it can go over 150 MPH than you will if you drive a Honda because it can't break 100 safely. Since your driving both cars to work at 60MPH its more about style than performance ... show the chicks yur 3GHz CPU they'll come running back ... hehe

Plus the price of these great chips is dropping like crazy. I know I don't need the latest 3GHz chip, but if that 3GHz chip drives down the cost of the 2GHz chips... then I'm just fine with the chip makers going for faster clock speeds.

granted. ya can buy a 2.5GHz box for under $500 from leading OEMs. But that doesn't mean a 1GHz box running heavily optimized SW wouldn't get the job done and be more reliable due to lower levels of complexity associated with slower clock speeds.
