Apple gets it... as should you...

Is it innovative? In and of itself no as there are similar
products on the market, none as elegant.

In the larger picture it is another part of the digital hub
Apple is building a block at a time with the iPod, ITMS,
Rendezvous, OS/X, etc and this base station which
connects to your stereo.

Remember, MS and Intel and the media companies are
putting their bets on a "Media Center PC". An expensive
device to replace your PC, intended to do what Apples small
building blocks (iPod, Airport Express) are doing now.

Say Apple introduces the next logical product in the
progression, it would be the Airport Express with HD or
video out. Add support for Quicktime and DVD playback
and what do you have? Most of the special functionality of
the media center pc is handled by this device.

Add a 60gb drive and color screen to an iPod and you have
a video player.

Apple is building the basics of the digital hub in a
consumer friendly fasion. Easy to use, liberal usage rights,
elegant design and definitely worth the price.

Windows users have "more choice", but ultimately you are
looking at years before you see any integrated or
organized attempt to provide digital media for your
enjoyment.

Just think, Longhorn will be here soon and it will have all
the DRM and media management tools to put in place their
vision of the digital hub, which is really more concerned
with maintaining their control on how you use what you
rent.

Apple gets it.
