Intel Wont
be the only distributer for its chipsets. Asus,Gigabyte,SIS,Abit,MSI, among others will be most likely marketing the chipsets. They each will have somewhat different performance characteristics based on what the manufacturer wishes to include to them. And there are many differences among them.

You can of course grab the Intel branded chipsets directly from Intel - and they usually are top performers. But first out the door isn't exactly what you might want,to find what your looking for.

For example DDR2,PCI-express,SATA each of these will go through component changes,so even though these are seen within the specification - it will take some different areas of marketed products to 'catch up with what Intel dayviews.

PCI-express being one of them,of wich the two major graphics boards manufacturers have composed different products in support of 'their own specifications.

Things can only get better with the advent of better 'onboard graphics from Intel. The graphics will go from 'underperforming to 'adaquete.

The raid-controler onboard Intel chipsets are said to be the best marketed. As well its 'dual-channel memory capable boards available for the desktop are unsurpassed for chipsets in the memory component performance area. With the exception of the most recent AMD 939 pin motherboards.

HT or hyperthreading - a specification of Intels creates two virtual cpus within a single Intel CPU. Software must be developed to take advantage of it - but the technology is a substantial advancement. .

Many software vendors utilize Hyperthreading as a default.

-just talking.
