Sun is now a true mainframe to desktop player
selling ADM desktops and blades on the low end, X86 and SPARC midrange, and SPARC exclusively on the high end ... on mainframes the CPU doesn't really matter as much as the system design and peripherals and SW support so this strategy could be interesting. Would still seem to be expensive to go it alone in RISC and OS R&D costs but if it gets them traction into a real mainframe level marketplace (as opposed to big iron servers) then it could be a big boost ... they still have to so more with services to keep up with HP and IBM but that's always been the lean 'n mean Sun story (which killed them in revenue over the last three years).
