I thought it would be a good thing
Isn't open ALWAYS better? I mean, if the OS is ubiquitous enough to warrant commoditization, surely the BIOS is more so. This way, there can be no surprises from those untrustworthy BIOS companies that we have been beholden to all these years. Just imagine what they might have been foisting on us! With the source opened up, we can see exactly what's happening. Plus, since it will be open, there should be little threat of virii -- you know, all those eyes and all.

Besides, it will be fun to watch how the new open BIOS begins to evolve, with features added to differentiate suppliers. Sound familiar?
