Yes, Anne's attempted comparison of "Loser Criticism" (really, I never hear anyone call it that; they say 'textual criticism' instead) was the Lowest Criticism;)

There is some analogy between reconstructing the original text from the manuscript tradition and the data storage problem Jeremy mentions in his original narticle, but not much.

Finally, I know it is off topic, but I can't help myself;) Reading the textual variants in anything but the original seems like a complete waste of time. You cannot even see the "Ariadne's thread" (Vaganay and Amphoux's term, not mine) linking together the variants together unless you look in the original language and see the similarities that explain homoioteleuton, dittography etc.
