Formats Should Worry You
even though formatting was only one of the problems the article points out. After all, think a little harder about your Rosetta Stone example. Yes, the Rosetta Stone was deciphered, but it was only the latest of a number of samples of hieroglyphic writing, all of which remained undeciphered _until_ the Rosetta Stone was deciphered.

Furthermore, there are somewhat similar documents that have yet to be deciphered. The Phaistos Disk has yet to be deciphered. The same goes for the Voynich Manuscript. Proprietary formats could turn entire warehouses into the future's equivalent of the Voynich Manuscript. Historians wouldn't even know where to begin to look for what is genuinely interesting.
