You missed the not many apps exist part
I'm sure you can name a handfull of apps compiled to run on 64 bit Linux. But to my knowledge nothing major like Apache, MySQL, JBoss, Tomcat, or even the JRE have been FULLY ported to 64 bit code. So sure go ahead and reveal in your glory, but until an app is compiled and optimized for 64 bit computing, then you're probably better off running most of apps on 32 bit Intel Xeon MP processors. You can already run 512 GBs of memory on W2K3 Data Center, so what's the big deal?
