Self Serving Pap from Paxton
"There really aren't any benefits to consumers," said Mike Paxton, an analyst with In-Stat.

********. I have an HDTV with CableCard built in. Yet I still have to rent a box from Comcast because they won't make CableCard work right. Now they'll have to.

Most people won't even notice if a CableCard has been inserted into their set-top box, because the card itself provides no additional features or functions.

Red Herring. CableCard adds the feature of allowing my TV's built-in tuner to receive all my digital cable channels. I no longer need to rent a box from Comcast. I no longer need a separate remote. I might even get a n HDTV Tivo.

"We've made CableCards available. But so far there seems to be little desire on the side of consumers to enable the technology."

Yeah, right. It's available all right. But Comcast technicians have no idea how to make it work -- because their box doesn't use it. And the company has no incentive to train the techs and fix the problems.

"Consumers don't seem to want the competition in the set-top market," Paxton said. "They are perfectly happy to lease a box from their cable provider for $5 or $10 a month."

Yeah? Well then what are you so worried about? Cost? You told us you're passing that along, Liar.

Oh, and one more thing. Stop making up crap and putting it in my mouth. Yes, consumers do want choice. And you never asked me if I wanted you to have no competition.

This is one of those rare cases of the government doing exactly what it's supposed to be doing -- ensuring that huge corporations with monopoly franchises don't use that to lock out competition and force consumers to buy other things from them.
