I've got nothing against Toshiba.....Sony either for that matter
as far as laptops go. They've always had fine designs as far as I'm concerned.
Still I'd be willing to bet that Sony, Toshiba and Apple all have their own engineers
and designers and once they work out the design and specs of their machines all
also sub contract the actual manufacturing. Now I can't get into the nitty gritting
of specific parts and how the various people behind the desing make their
decisions say hard drives for instance or placement. I can tell you ove the years
that when working on a Macintosh product more often then not I could easilty get
into and replace parts far easier than I could a given Dell as an example. Now this
has not always been true Apple put some real monsters together in the early 90's
Man! But in general while I think Apple contracts out their desktops as well as
their laptops I find Apple's design on say a MacPro or older G4 or G4 tower to be
far superior than many a vendor for it's time. Granted others have improved over
time but I'm not that patient. Again have nothing against Toshiba products like
their laptops not thrilled with the OS under the hood but the hardware itself is not
bad at all....
