The newer santa rosa technology with the faster FSB is available on all brands. It's not an Apple exclusive. In fact, the other companies offer larger and faster hard drives than you can get on a Macbook. (one area I'm guessing they choose to trim costs while keeping specs higher in other areas ). Bottom line is the same ODMs are making the machines and Apple et. al. are simply rebranding them. I've heard of more "heat" related problems on the Macbook than any other major reseller with laptops. If Toshiba or HP or Dell have been having heat problems, I've simply not heard about them. The crack problem on macbooks is another example. I'm not saying it's exclusive to Apple but we've not seen any reports of this with other OEMs. And I have a feeling there are more with these very inconspicuous cracks than are ever reported since most wouldn't see them or spend time on sites that would report it. Apple has it fair share of mainstreamers that buy the machine and never visit a tech site as long as they own it. So if there is room for case and heat dissapation design at the OEM level, you'd be hard pressed to convince me Apple excels in that area. I would have to stick with a toshiba. The Toshiba laptops with santa rosa technology are very sweet. If you've not looked at them, you should as the aesthetics are fine. I think being a man that puts stock in things of that nature, you'd appreciate the design and the beautiful lid cover.
