i think anything less than mass hysteria and total sellouts nation wide is a disappointment to Steve Jobs. It has to be, after all it's "magical". ;)

I do believe the lack of sellouts does betray the massive hype for this product. I think in the end the shortcomings held many back to wait for a later release. If I was interested in a phone like this, which i would never be since I just can't understand the desire to browse on a tiny screen, I would surely wait for the second or third edition.

It basically did a Vista - not quite as lacking in the numbers showing up, but Vista was not hyped by the anti-ms mainsream media anywhere near this and had so many ABM detractors working feverishly to erode any hype and national icons like Steve Jobs standing on stage telling the world that Vista is a joke, it was no wonder - and people are doing a wait and see or have already decided to wait for better service plans. Which could mean over 5 years. The people that could afford an ipod, outside the Mac faithful, certainly cannot afford the iphone esp.with huge monthly fees and being locked into a not-so-good service for a long period. And clearly there is a large number of people that cannot get the service. The numbers of the ipod buyers in the middle to lower class, which is a huge number, will not be buying this phone. And of course many in the mid to upper class would not be able to justify those costs as well.
