That's like saying cars will be free while you license GPS software.

Tangible items always have a cost. It's the copyright material that has litte cost in producing after you make your money back. That's not the case with hardware.

Take a look at the X-Box for example. You buy it for $150. I can buy a 1 GHZ computer with no monitor for less than that. Who kidding who, Micrsoft sure isn't losing money on that baby. They might have when it first came out that hardware top of the line but not today. But that what they call taking a loss to get into the market.

Now if you talking about the money being made on software then you are right but hardware will hardly be free. Today you spend more cash on software than on the hardware. At work here the hardware costs $1200 and the remaining $4000 spent on workstation is licensing costs.
