Hardware will be free
Not quoted in the article, Schwartz echoes Bill Gates' prediction that within five years hardware will be free, with the only costs being software licensing. Obviously, IBM and HP disagree; Michael Dell has yet to be heard from.

At least as far as Sun hardware is concerned, Schwartz may be right. Even now, the main market for Sun workstations is on EBay and at thrift stores. Given another five years and you should be able to pick up Sun machinery for the cost of hauling it away.
