Well, first of all gaming and power conservation generally don't mix that well. No matter what you choose, any DirectX 10 card is going to suck a lot of power.
That being said, the 8400 would probably be the best choice to go with for a desktop. A budget card is likely to use less power than a top of the line card.
Actually, if you're really a power miser, it would be better to go with a notebook - nVidia already has an "M" line of GPUs that offer DirectX 10 on notebooks. Since a notebook is generally designed with battery life in mind, all of the components on a notebook are going to be designed for much lower power consumption.

Also, if you really want to curb pollution, look to your car - cars are the worst offenders as far as this stuff goes.
Even the hybrids aren't that good in the USA - miles per gallon in the 30s? C'mon my Ford Escort gets that! Hybrids should be able to get into the 50s and 60s in mileage, but for some strange reason the ones in the USA aren't doing that. They guzzle gas just like the rest of our vehicles.
Anyways, here's a company to keep your eyes on in the upcoming years:

Now, all Tesla Motors has right now is their $100,000 Roadster, but lower cost designs are in the works, and they hope to eventually be selling $50,000 and $30,000 electric cars in the future.
But if you can afford $100,000, by all means get the Roadster =). It's an amazing car, able to go from 0-60 in four seconds flat and (since it's pure electric) still get an equivalent of 135 mpg - proof that you don't have to sacrifice performance for mileage. IMHO pure electrics (and plugin hybrids for long trips) are really the future.
And no, it's NOT a mistype - the Tesla Roadster gets the equivalent of one hundred thirty five mpg! Frankly, we have the technology today to save a whole lot of energy. The only big barrier left is the public's misguided perception that we have to sacrifice something to do it. We don't have to sacrifice anything, and we don't have to wait 10+ years for some exotic technology to get out of the labs. If we wanted to, we could rally behind the electric car and get it in 1-2 years. - Posted by: CobraA1 Posted on: 07/01/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
