$500 = low cost in India? What are they high on?
Anyone who considers $500 "low-cost" in India is indeed high as a kite on some nasty bad crack. US$500 equates to around say 21000 Indian Rupee. When I visited India (Bombay) a few months ago, you could pick up full fledged PC's with a CRT monitor for that price, with the OS, Office 2007, etc thrown in.

I bet out of the $500, the real value of the hardware doesn't exceed 300 or 350 bucks, and the rest goes to microsoft for "licensing". How many weeks or months are they going to wait before they see this model fall flat on its proverbial face in countries like China and India where bootleg software is available cheap or free, in large quantities to anyone who wants it?

Last time I checked there, I could pick up the entire Adobe CS2 suite for 200 rupees which is around what.. 4-5 dollars?

The best solution for these countries is a low cost PC or laptop with a free OS and productivity software, and good support, not that microsoft support is anything to write home about. This way, they won't waste money on useless junk (windows?) they wouldn't have bought anyway, and use the extra 100-150 bucks on more powerful hardware and RAM.
